Inspired by the development of Women In Technology (WIT) groups at other UC campuses, UCSB WIT provides an inclusive, supportive community that empowers women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming community members at UCSB and across the UC to pursue and enhance careers in information technology (IT).
Our goal is to guide women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming members to achieve success and workplace resilience while working in an IT field. Anyone at UCSB who is working in or interested in a career in IT is encouraged to join WIT, regardless of gender identity or expression.
UCSB WIT meets every other month to network, provide training, host guest speakers, share resources, identify campus partnerships and outreach opportunities, promote a diverse and inclusive work space, and to help build a collaborative community within the UC IT field/workforce.
We aim to create a supportive environment that allows the WIT coalition to:
- Build working relationships on campus
- Improve outreach to communities underrepresented in IT
- Engage in professional growth and skill sharing opportunities
- Develop mentoring opportunities for employees and students
- Share resources and help others navigate a complex work environment
- Develop leadership skills
- Help create a pipeline for students to enter IT at UCSB and across the UC
