On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 5:00 AM, UC Santa Barbara ITS Network Services will update the security certificates for the campus wireless networks.
Following this update, your saved Wi-Fi profiles will no longer be trusted automatically, and your devices will lose internet connection until they are reconfigured. This affects both the eduroam and ucsb-secure networks.
How to Restore Your Wi-Fi Connection
To regain network access anytime after 5:00 AM on September 15, you must complete the following steps on any phones, laptops, and tablets that you use on campus regularly:
Step 1: Forget the Old Networks
- Open your device’s Wi-Fi Settings
- Select eduroam, then tap Forget Network or Remove Profile
- Select ucsb-secure, then tap Forget Network or Remove Profile
Step 2: Reconnect to the Network
Choose one of the two connection methods below:
- Option A: Use the Automated Tool (Recommended)
- Go to the official eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT)
- Select University of California, Santa Barbara as your institution
- Download and run the automated installer for your specific device. This safely installs the new security certificate automatically
- Option B: Manual Setup
- Select eduroam or ucsb-secure from your device's available Wi-Fi list
- Log in using your full university credentials (e.g., netID@ucsb.edu for eduroam)
- Click Accept or Trust when asked to approve the new root certificate
