WSG co-chair nomination and election information

  • If you would like to nominate someone or yourself, send an email to wsg-chairs@connect.ucsb.edu and we will take care of the rest.
  • Some reasons to serve:
    • Give back to the UCSB web community.
    • Foster collaboration among web professionals at UCSB.
    • Looks good on your resume.
  • Timeline:
    • We need to announce the nominees before Jan 6th.
    • Voting will happen at the February 6th WSG meeting.
  • You can review the WSG Charter (https://it.ucsb.edu/groups/wsg/wsg-charter) which describes the WSG co-chair duties or send any questions our way.

UCSB Graphic Identity Guidelines update from Alex Parraga

  • Final graphic identity guidelines and related assets (https://www.ucsb.edu/graphic-identity/) updated in December 2017
    • Start using them now (January 2018)
  • New ucsb.edu site will be up later this month
  • Mihoko Jones currently working on centrally-hosted font solution
    • Public Affairs will pay for web fonts, usage will be by honor system
    • ETS will be using AWS for fonts; will be similar to using Google fonts
    • System will allow ucsb.edu subdomain names; for other domains (such as ucsb.com), contact Mihoko
  • More information to come about custom upstream solution via Pantheon
    • Will be managed by Shea Lovan in ETS
  • Drupal base theme for new ucsb.edu site is Bootstrap
  • Public Affairs asking for collaboration with WSG to create themes for WordPress and Sitefinity

Siteimprove (accessibility checker) update from Kate Lucero, Adaptive Technology Specialist

  • Overview
    • As of Fall 2017, UCOP has signed a contract with Siteimprove to increase systemwide web accessibility and equal access.
    • Siteimprove is a third party SaaS provider that provides web site tools to help content authors identify broken links, misspellings, ADA compliance issues, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), website analytics, and application/server response.
  • Frequency of Reports
    • Siteimprove will crawl your entire website every 5 days and give the assigned user detailed information about pages that are in good standards and pages that need attention.
  • Report Details
    • The report will include lists of broken links, unsafe domains, misspellings and potential misspellings.
  • Timeline
    • There will be a phased rollout for all campuses which has been tentatively planned for UCSB with a start date of February 2018 for 15 websites.
    • Remaining sites will be onboarded after these sites have been integrated.
  • Training
    • More information including training will be provided as it becomes available.

  • Gary Scott will lead the migration of ucsb-wsg repos and issues.

    • ARIT is using JetBrains TeamCity for dev and test sites only; it can watch GitHub
