The UCSB Web Standards Group and the Office of Information Systems & Technology invite you to a training workshop on

Going Mobile with MWF

Friday, May 25, 2012
Part I: 9:30 am - 12 noon, EH&S Training Room
Part II: 1:30-4 pm, SSMS Lab 1301-2

This two-part workshop focuses on using the Mobile Web Framework (MWF) — an easy-to-use, device agnostic and platform independent framework — to develop mobile Web sites at UCSB. We will explore five case study sites developed with the MWF. Each workshop attendee will have the opportunity to develop a simple MWF site in a computer lab setting. Both sections are suitable for beginning developers who have basic knowledge of HTML. Basic knowledge of CSS is also helpful.

BREAKOUT: Part I, 9:30 am - 12 noon
In the morning session, we’ll discuss the role that mobile Web plays in higher education, compare various mobile Web development techniques to the Mobile Web Framework, and explore five UCSB mobile sites developed with the MWF, discussing the strategy that went into turning full desktop sites into slimmer mobile sites.

BREAKOUT: Part II, 1:30 - 4 pm
In the afternoon lab session, you’ll have a hands-on opportunity to build a mobile site, using the MWF, from a generic UCSB desktop site that has been created specifically for this tutorial. Each attendee will be given the materials to build a 4-5 page MWF site that includes navigation, an image gallery, a map, interactive links and contact information, and a basic form.

This workshop is free and open to all UCSB campus employees. Registration is limited to 45 participants. Pre-registration is required. Sign up online at (log in with your UCSBNetID and search for "MWF"). You can sign up for Part I, Part II, or both sessions. For questions, send email to
