Web Standards Group

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The WSG is a campus-wide forum whose membership is drawn from Web developers, designers, and administrators across campus. It was formed in May 2005 with a twofold task: to recommend a set of Web guidelines and best practices that could be endorsed as standards for UCSB campus Web sites, and to develop a central campus resource for disseminating information on these guidelines, as well as other Web-related resources and tools. These guidelines and resources can be found in the UCSB Web Guide.

To receive notices of Web Standards Group meetings and training activities, subscribe to the UCSB-Web Mailing List.

If you want to start a discussion or connect with additional campus members please join and see the RACK discussion forums in GauchoSpace.

Current Web Standards Group co-chairs are Gary Scott and Denise Saludares.

Most meetings are the first Tuesday of the month held at Kerr Hall, second floor.

Callie Bowdish: Co-chair Candidate Statement

I accept the nomination to be a co-chair of the Web Standards Group (WSG). As a member for many years, I have enjoyed the company of other members involved with providing web support, design, and content to UCSB departmental websites. This group provides opportunities to share and learn about best practices for web publishing and to learn from each other.  I have also taken advantage of the many web publishing courses that are offered through this group and would like to be able to give back by helping as co-chair.

Logan Franken: Co-chair Candidate Statement

My name is Logan Franken and I believe, as Co-Chair of the UCSB Web Standards Group, that I can help build upon and extend the group's history of moving the campus's web presence forward.

Ian Lessing: Co-chair Candidate Statement

I’ve been working on websites since 1996 when I joined a growing ISP and network consulting company. Back then I supported webmasters, fielding questions from “What’s the best web authoring tool?” and “How do I password protect a directory?” to “Can you set up a load balancing system with extra servers to handle all the traffic we expect next week?” In those early years, standards were few and following them meant you couldn’t take advantage of the latest feature in Internet Explorer, so few programmers paid attention to standards.

Tiye Baldwin: Co-chair Candidate Statement

I am honored to accept the nomination to serve in the role of co-chair for the Web Standards Group. I have actively participated in the Web Standards Group for approximately one year. During that time, I have benefitted from various events and training. Through the Web Standards Group, I have also learned how departments around campus are using and adapting to web-related technology.
