Let's talk about how your document flows. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines state that when the sequence of your content affects its meaning, the correct reading order must be programmatically determined. But what does that actually mean for you? It means you should never use the spacebar or tab key to fake a column layout! If you use whitespace to create multiple columns, a screen reader will read straight across the page, scrambling your message—and that is a direct accessibility failure. Instead, always use your software’s built-in column tools so the underlying digital structure matches your visual design perfectly!
