Physical access control, security systems, and related campus support.

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides technology solutions that help departments manage physical access to campus facilities and monitor secured spaces.

Building Access Control

Building Access Control (BAC) allows authorized departments to add, modify, or remove access permissions for secured campus buildings and spaces.

Request Building Access Support

BAC service offerings are primarily available to designated Department Access Controllers (DACs). Department employees should follow their department’s established access request process and work through their DAC.

DACs can request support through the IT Service Catalog in ServiceNow:

  • Log in via SSO using your UCSB netID
  • Select Enterprise Business Applications
  • Select Building Access Control

You can also search the catalog using DAC or BAC. The complete list of service offerings is visible only to designated DACs.

Departments without a DAC should contact their business officer or office manager.

Support

During business hours, contact the ITS Service Desk at (805) 893-5000 or submit a ServiceNow ticket.

For urgent after-hours assistance, contact Roger Zuniga. General questions about this service may be directed to Manuel Cintron.

Video Security Services

Video Security as a Service (VSaaS) is a managed video security solution provided by ITS in partnership with a commercial video surveillance provider. The service gives authorized users 24/7 access to a secure web portal where they can search, view, and download recorded video from cameras installed at their location.

Although live viewing is available, the service is primarily designed to support recorded video review.

Service Features

ITS provides end-to-end support that may include:

  • System consultation and design
  • Camera installation and configuration
  • Camera and user account administration
  • Subscription and contract management
  • Customer billing
  • Introductory portal training
  • Ongoing camera maintenance and field support

Video retention of up to 90 days per camera may also be available as an optional feature.

Request the Service

Submit a request through the IT Service Catalog in ServiceNow to begin the consultation process.

ITS will meet with your department to discuss its monitoring needs, evaluate the proposed location, and recommend potential solutions. More complex installations may require professional system design services.

Before implementation, ITS will provide proposed options and estimated costs for departmental review and approval.

One-time costs may include

  • System design
  • Cameras and supporting equipment
  • Installation and configuration
  • Required network enhancements
  • Additional value-added services

Departments may incur additional recurring costs for annual monitoring subscriptions, preventative maintenance, select added services, and post-installation service or replacement.

Final costs depend on the number of cameras, installation requirements, retention needs, and selected services.

Video Security Requirements

Video camera installation and use must comply with applicable campus privacy, security, records management, signage, and approval requirements.

Departments should review the Video Camera and Video Surveillance Policy before requesting a new installation. Required campus approvals should be completed before cameras are purchased or installed.

Support

For assistance with an existing VSaaS installation or portal access, submit a ITS Service Desk ticket through ServiceNow. Vendor support information for portal usage is provided to participating departments during onboarding.

Video Security FAQs

  • The department owns and maintains its cameras and any department-managed network equipment used to support them.
  • ITS maintains the central video recording infrastructure and supporting services.
  • Specific responsibilities will be confirmed during the consultation process.

Recorded video is available only to authorized users assigned to the department’s camera group and designated ITS staff who administer the service.

  • Standard retention depends on the selected service configuration.
  • Retention of up to 90 days per camera may be available for an additional annual fee.

Yes. Authorized users can select recorded footage in the portal and download or play the video using a compatible media player.

  • Live viewing may be available depending on the camera, network configuration, and security requirements.
  • Because live viewing can generate significant network traffic, ITS will evaluate this need during the consultation process.

Departments are responsible for ensuring that their use of video security complies with applicable campus policies and guidelines, including requirements related to approvals, privacy, signage, access, and appropriate use.

Possibly. ITS can evaluate requests for features or configurations that are not included in the standard service and may recommend a custom solution through an approved partner.
