In February 2023, Information Technology Services (ITS) shared that Google will enact storage limits for Google Workspace Services (Drive and Gmail). As a result, the entire campus’ Google Workspace usage must fit within a specific storage allocation by June 2024.

Existing users and shared drives will be given storage quotas based on their current usage. These new quotas will take effect during Winter Break (December 18, 2023 through January 5, 2024). The new quotas take into account your existing usage and should not impact your day-to-day use of Google Drive or Gmail.

Over the past three months, ITS has worked in partnership with Connect Departmental Admins (CDAs) to identify users who must decrease their storage usage. Based on campus feedback, UCSB has acquired extra Google storage to alleviate the impact on our community. Because of this action, fewer than 1% of current UCSB users will need to reduce their storage usage. If your local CDA does not contact you, then you do not need to take any action to decrease your storage usage.

Thank you for your attention and partnership.
