As part of ongoing efforts to reduce the campus’ overall Google Workspace storage usage, Information Technology Services (ITS) will make changes to some of the current Connect service offerings. Please be advised that the ability to create Shared Drives will be disabled for separated users, former users, and affiliates. Additionally, Google Photos will be disabled for new users by default. Existing Google Photos users will still have access to the Google Photos service. These changes will take effect starting Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Connect Google Workspace is, first and foremost, a messaging and collaboration platform. The primary purpose of Google storage is for email, native Google files (Docs, Slides, Sheets), private documents, and to facilitate document collaboration. It is not recommended to store personal photos on a university account. To benefit both the university and individual users, UCSB staff, faculty, students, and affiliates are encouraged to remove files stored in Google Photos from their UCSB accounts.
Please work with your local Connect Departmental Admin (CDA) if you need assistance decreasing your storage usage.
For more information, please visit the Google Storage Project webpage for updates and review the Google Storage FAQs. If you have additional questions or concerns, please submit a ServiceNow ticket.
Thank you for your attention and partnership.
