In spring 2025, UCSB will begin enforcing Cybersecurity Awareness training compliance in order to meet the UCOP mandate's requirement of 100% compliance. Any UC Santa Barbara employee (those in the UCPath system) who are assigned the training in the UC Learning Center will be required to complete the 35-minute training, or risk losing access to important systems like Canvas, Google Suite and Zoom.
Non-compliant users will continue to be redirected to SumTotal to complete their trainings at single sign-on (SSO) until they are able to complete the requirement.
All employees are eligible for compensation for time spent on mandatory training. Please work with your supervisor or manager to coordinate time to complete this training during your regularly scheduled work hours.

- Log in with your UCSBNetID and associated password. You will be redirected to the Sumtotal site

About this course: As part of the university’s efforts to address increasing threats to our information systems and data, you have been assigned this security awareness training program required of all UC faculty, staff and student employees. Increasingly, more of our sensitive information is stored online, and cybersecurity awareness is equally critical for our roles at UCSB and our personal practice. This training program will better prepare us to safeguard the information entrusted to us, protect our digital identity and strengthen our defense against future attacks.
Course Time: Approximately 35 minutes. The course is brief enough to be completed in one sitting, but you may also take it in more than one sitting. A bookmark function will save your place should you need to take the course over multiple sessions.
Note: If you do not see the course under Required Training, you can search for it.
- On the homepage, enter Cyber into the search bar in the upper right corner
- Click on “UC Cyber Security Awareness Fundamentals” and click “START”
